The evaluation framework for candidates of the King Salman Global Award for Disability Research

Award Objectives

  • Encouraging local, regional, and global efforts to enrich scientific knowledge in disability fields.
  • Promoting intellectual creativity and scientific excellence to develop solutions that reduce or mitigate disability impacts.
  • Establishing and promoting scientific research culture in disability studies.
  • Utilizing research outcomes to improve programs and services for persons with disabilities.
  • Investing research results to enable persons with disabilities to become productive and active members of society.

General Regulations

  • The award is granted to researchers, scientists, and institutions with outstanding scientific contributions in disability fields.
  • The scientific output must fall under one of the approved award categories.
  • All submitted works must adhere to recognized scientific research methodologies.
  • The work must demonstrate originality, innovation, and clear scientific impact.
  • The work must not have been submitted for another similar award.
  • Previous winners may reapply only after five years with new scientific work.
  • The award secretariat is not obligated to return submitted materials.
  • Employees of King Salman Center or award committee members are not eligible.

Nomination Requirements

  • Published scientific output in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Submission of a list of published studies including:
    • Study titles
    • Publishing journal
    • Impact factor
    • Journal classification (Q1–Q4)
  • List of authored, edited, or translated books.
  • List of professional contributions or community initiatives.
  • An analytical article not exceeding 500 words.
  • A formal support letter from the affiliated institution or a professional peer.

Evaluation Criteria

Impact factor and journal classification.

(20 Points)

Scientific productivity in the disability field.

Criterion Three
(20 Points)

Professional and community contributions.

Evaluation Levels

1 Excellent (4) Exceeds expectations by providing additional universal accessibility features.
2 Achieved (3) Fully meets all universal accessibility standards.
3 Partially Achieved (2) Meets some accessibility standards.
4 Not Fully Compliant (1) Implemented but does not comply with accessibility guidelines.
5 Not Achieved (0) No universal accessibility standards were met.
6 Not Applicable The institution is not required to meet this criterion based on its nature.
